Music

I’m playing percussion with a variety of musical acts these days, including  Tani Diakite & the Afrofunkstars and WADOMA, both based here in Madison, WI. I teach and arrange the music for WADOMA, and also help to arrange Tani’s music. But nothing inspires me quite like Immigré, a 10-piece afrobeat ensemble I founded along with some good friends and longtime musical collaborators. Check out some video of our first performance this past summer at the High Noon Saloon.

In addition, I’ve really enjoyed playing Kirtan with Keith Borden and Soul Sangha. Keith is an immensely talented and inspiring singer and musician who specializes in the very beautiful and meditative call-and-response musical form.

Lately I’ve also had the pleasure of reconnecting with my old friend and fellow drummer Jeff Sauer, joining him in the Talking Heads tribute act Houses in Motion, as well as with Andy Fitzpatrick to form a trio incarnation of the sonically adventurous Cap Alan.

Check out some video of WADOMA performing on the UW-Madison Memorial Union Terrace in August of 2014. That’s me singing and playing djembe solo:
